Feral Flotsam 2 x c90 Compilation Available.

This here is a huge assemblage of subterran sounds that's taken us a good part of a year to scrape together. The compilation draws together damn near three hours of listening fodder from all ends of the sonic sewerage system. In addition to a coupla more recognisable foreign names, Feral Flotsam contains a healthy cross-section of the contemporary Asstralian underbelly. In order of appearance:

Tim Coster, Fossils, Cock Safari, xNo BBQx, Dylan Nyoukis, The Mermaids, Mshing & Military Position, Mud Brick Couch, Dry Mouth, Bleak, Cosmic Coincidence, Dingbats, X-Wave, Tailings, Motion Sic, Mansion, People Person, Bitter Defeat, Astral Social Club, Chronox, Cured Pink, VDO, 6majik9, Orinokoflo, Ryan Jewell, Joel Stern, Unwar, Muura, Wardenburger, Mu, Cooper Bowman, Oranj Punjabi + Castings.

Comps are fifteen Australian dollars + post, I know it's not cheap but this thing was pricey to make and is a lengthy mutha. Currently trying to sort out some more appealing options for overseas ears, so stay tooned if this applies to you.

CK'N I - IV c30 + Cock Safari / Crabby Bogman Split c6.

This thing is weird. Three mates got together and, without really thinking, jammed out a tape of simultaneously loose and engaging inept electronic muzak using synthesisers, tape loops, a sampler and a drum machine. Three tracks that border on agreeability and a longer, decayed piece of repetitive ooze that all flow with unrestrained ease into one another. Not that it’s even remotely important, but the three fellas involved have played in a number of groups from the last coupla years; Castings, Cistern Corrupt, Tailings, Junk Sick and Orinokoflo among ‘em. If any of these names ring in yer ears, you should probably open your synapses and soak this in. This is one of my fave Alt States releases so far…

Also, just out on Grog Pappy is a split c6 between Cock Safari and someone called Crabby Bogman. I gave away all my copies already, so hit Mikey up if you want one.

Feral Flotsam compilation + other kewl stuff coming soon.

3 x New Releases.

ANDREW COLTRANE – THE NIGHT SQUAD c32

Detroit’s Andrew Coltrane has been thumping out stellar sound for a coupla decades now, spread over releases on his own Hermitage label as well as a grip of the usual seppo suspects (Fag Tapes, American Tapes, Middle James Co). Following on from his recent ball-tearer of an LP on Trilogy Tapes, AC delivers a pounding slab o’ tape mannip and blistered electronics recorded straight to four-track sometime in 2010. Straight from Michigan’s smoke stacks to your skull! 60 copies.

COCK SAFARI + DINGBATS – A CAT MAY LOOK AT A KING c22

This here’s a fried lil’ collab between Cock Safari (Mycle Treeeskinz) and Dingbats (Kane Ewin) recorded at Newcastle’s premier pharmaceutical dispensary / venue / flophouse. There isn’t much point trying to describe these sounds, ya just need to chuck your green goggles on and immerse yourself. One thing I will say is that if you dig on loops, this is the crepe for you. I had a bunch of c90’s lying around, so half the tape is taken up with whatever crap was on the end of the master I was given, sounds like local radio, whoo. 40 copies.

ORANJ PUNJABI / COOPER BOWMAN – SPLIT c32

This is a split between two bros from Melbourne who dig on smokin’ doobs and jamming similar sounds. The kind of noise that emanates from Oranj Punjabi (Fjorn Butler) is some of the most interesting to leak outta the overcrowded Australian swimming hole in recent years. Fj’s side is four tracks of densely layered tape clatter, calling to mind bleakened atmospheres. I am really stoked on this one. My side is three tracks recorded one arvo in my loungeroom using looped tapes, Nintendo synth n' contact mics. 60 copies.

Fossils - "Drooling Hercules" CS Available.

If you're not already aware, Canada's Fossils have carved out a unique groove for themselves over the last half-decade on labels including Kye, Fag Tapes, Chocolate Monk and their own imprint, Middle James Co. On "Drooling Hercules", core-Fossil David Payne is joined by Daniel Farr and Josh St. Denis on the A and B side respectively. These stripped down manifestations of Fossils provide some of the most interesting sounds I've heard from them thus far. More fried minimalism than total harshness, both sides present a blend of tape loops, synth, guitar, electronics and, most importantly, room sound, creating a sonorous headrush fit for a king. I'm not sure how many I've made so far, the run will be somewhere between 40 and 60 I guess...

Coming in the next couple of weeks are tapes from Detroit's Andrew Coltrane and a split between Melbourne musique concreters Oranj Punjabi and Reunion Sacred Ibis. Both are guaranteed to be rippers, so keep yer eyes peeled.
